Greycon’s European Business Development Manager Ivana and Marketing Manager Dan were both in attendance at the first UK Metals Expo. Taking place at the NEC Birmingham on September 14th – 15th, Greycon could be found at stand J48 alongside Jonas Metals Software and Phocas Software. Both Ivana and Dan had a great time talking to attendees and learning more about the metals industry.

What was on the agenda at the expo?

Lightweight materials strategy and supply chain innovation: In this session Operations Manager of Smiths Metal Centres discussed using bespoke IT systems to drive down costs and improve supply chain processes.

The UK Lightweight Innovations Manager at Ford, Alan Banks, was also speaking at this seminar. Alan’s talk focussed on the opportunity for the UK automotive industry to lower its global CO2 footprint. Improving GVA, creating jobs and generating innovation alongside ensuring resilience for the UK supply chain were all great topics of discussion.

Diversity and inclusivity in the metals industry: In 2022 gender diversity and inclusion matter more than ever in the workplace. Jacqui Murray, Deputy Director of Faraday Battery Challenge Innovate UK and Philippa Oldham, Stakeholder Engagement Director at Advanced Propulsion Centre, both took to the stand to share their experiences as women working within the metals industry.

Recycling Metals: Leighton John and Sean Millard from the Royal Mint delivered a seminar on recycling metals. Many interesting recycling practices and methods were discussed with Leighton and Sean going into detail about the Royal Mint’s commitment to sustainability.
