We’ve had a busy few months here at Greycon, particularly with new starters and job opportunities. This week we spoke to two new members of the team about their new roles and what it is like to start a job remotely.

Niki: It was a unique experience and challenging, but I managed to build strong relationships with the team even though I could not meet them all in person. I was exciting to be involved in very interesting projects, trying to solve diverse problems. I really enjoy being part of the Greycon team, I know I still have a lot of improvements to make, and I am looking forward to discovering the next chapter.
Yannis: The first few months have been very satisfactory. I have learned a lot about the Greycon products, specific clients and about the industry in general. I was also happy to meet my colleagues, who have always been very nice, approachable and helpful.
Niki: I was teaching Science and Economics in High School for about 5 years. I decided to change career to expand my knowledges and my skills. I chose to follow a different path, as all the members of my family are educators, discovering new opportunities.
Yannis: I did my BSc in Biology in Athens. Then I moved to the UK where I did my MSc in Evolutionary Genetics in Edinburgh and my PhD in Evolutionary Biology in Hull. With the birth of my son, I decided to move away from academia and Greycon seemed like the perfect place to make a transition to a new field, while making use of the skills I have acquired during my studies.
Niki: It was a whole new world for me, as I had never worked in a software company before. I think the reason I chose this career was my need to challenge myself to do something different than what I know. I have always been interested in activities that allow me to identify the possible causes of a problem and find a creative solution.
Yannis: I wanted to experience working in a position outside of academia. I really appreciate the work ethic of the company and that every issue reported by our clients is unique. I have also really enjoyed my interactions with new colleagues.
Niki: It is a constantly developing world. Never getting tired of gaining knowledge. It is important to be adaptable and learn new things. If you are willing, then go for it. It will be a unique experience and a lot of opportunities for your career path.
Yannis: I have three pieces of advice, embrace the challenge, ask questions, and be willing to go outside of your comfort zone and learn new things.
