Schoellershammer, located in Düren, Germany, is a relevant non-integrated producer and supplier of RCCM qualities on the European market. This environmentally conscious company, operating two paper machines, thrives on its modest factory size, strong customer relationships (including several EDI connections to the customers’ warehouse), and a reputation for high flexibility in short-term production.
Schoellershammer faced a unique challenge stemming from its commitment to flexibility. The need for short-term changes, cost-effective full truck shipments, and the efficient planning of warehouse stocks, combined with the requirement to adjust machine sequences based on incoming orders and consider quotas and contracts, posed a complex planning puzzle. The company sought a solution to optimise its production planning processes, ensuring adaptability without compromising efficiency.
To tackle the challenges, Schoellershammer opted for a comprehensive solution. The integration process involved incorporating both opt-Studio and X-Trim into Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central ERP. Despite travel restrictions due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the implementation proceeded successfully without on-site visits.
Working collaboratively with the experienced planner, a tailored implementation of DSO (Dynamic Sequencing Optimiser) was introduced. This solution allowed for rapid and automatic reassignment of all orders to existing machines, considering specific constraints such as the inability to run certain products simultaneously on both paper machines. The integration into MS Dynamics BC and the deployment of DSO were critical steps in improving planning efficiency.
Following the implementation, Schoellershammer experienced a transformative shift in its operational dynamics. Planning processes became faster and more reliable, empowering the company to adapt to short-term changes swiftly.
